Boston Marathon Training: Week 11


Good Morning and Happy Monday! After an awesome race in Burlington, the past week of training was fairly light to allow me to recover. I’m happy to have had this week to recover because the next three weeks of training will be the toughest of this cycle; it may be the toughest of any training cycle in the past and that really excites me!

[ Training week 11 / 5 weeks until the Boston Marathon ]

Monday – W11D01 – Rest day! After smashing my half marathon yesterday, my legs were pretty sore today so I’m glad my coach was kind enough to give me the day off!

Tuesday – W11D02 – Easy Run (8 kilometers/42:39/5:20 pace) | (Strava Results). Tuesday is typically a workout day for me, but today I slowed the pace down to ease myself back into training following my race. Legs were feeling a bit sore yesterday, but that’s mostly gone now and I’m excited to get back to work!

Wednesday – W11D03– Easy Run (10 kilometers/49:00/4:54 pace) | (Strava Results).  Back to back easy days? Sure, why not?! Actually, I picked the pace up a bit to get my turnover going! The past two runs were also back to back early morning runs because my schedule at work has been a little bonkers. At least the runs make for really cool sunrise photos!


Thursday – W11D04 – Workout (warm-up, 4 x 1,600m, 2:00 jog | cool-down) | (Strava Results). So pressed for time today so I squeezed in a quick workout on the treadmill. For all the complaining I do about treadmills, when you’re pressed for time, it’s really nice to have the option of getting a run in without the added time waiting for traffic lights, traffic, and other factors that can add additional time to a run.

Friday –W11D05 – Easy Run (8 kilometres/41:04/5:05 pace | Strava Results). Another easy run today. I mentioned in today’s IG post how grey and gloomy it’s been in Toronto lately. I can not wait for Spring, not so much because I feel it’s been a bad Winter (hey, I only wore tights 2 or 3 times!), but I need some more sun on my runs! It’s amazing how much different a run feels when the sun is out!


Saturday –W11D06 – Easy Run (23 kilometers/1:55:59/5:02 pace | Strava Results). The plan was to meet at my buddy Dom’s house and we were going to meet up with our buddy Daniel for today’s long run; however, after a few too many drinks last night with the High Park Rogue Runner crew, Dom wasn’t in running shape so it was just me and Daniel. I met up with Daniel about 5 kilometers into my long run and we went on a really cool running tour through the East end of Toronto. It was really fun to mix things up and see parts of the city I rarely (or never) see!


Sunday –– W11D07 – Rest Day! Feels odd to have to rest days in one week, but that’s what happened! Who am I to argue with my coach? LOL!

Earlier in the week, the BAA released the bib numbers and starting waves/corrals. It seems each week there is yet another reminder of what’s about to happen 5 weeks from today! So exciting!!!
